Artists > Marisol Plard Narváez

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico 1966. Currently lives and work between Chicago and Puerto Rico.

DESCRIPTION

From early childhood her grandfather Gus trains her in the obsessive craft of cameras and family documentation. After his death, at age thirteen, Marisol began under the tutelage of photojournalist Alina Luciano in the newspaper El Reportero and Claridad Seminary in her hometown Puerto Rico. At 36, with over twenty years of experience as a camera operator in the communications industry and first assistant cameraman in the film industry, she began his studies leading to the Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Sculpture at the School of Plastic Arts. Then completed her studies at the post-graduate level in The School of Art Institute of Chicago [SAIC].

Plard’s work departs from the visual language capturing the obsessive, everyday image through a digital video camera or simple media like her telephone. The movement accompanied by her personal experience and intervention of the daily space solidified by the corporal gesture, forms the backbone of her work. The final result of this personal documentation leave us with a simple and minimalist photographic language with the strength and complexity of a refined research process.
