"It doesn’t matter if the scene is banal, irrational or that you don’t perceive the purity of love. What’s important is the sexual identity, nature and what is organic. When I work with the piece, I’m not saying: this is what I mean. Inside my creative process, I don’t believe in what is coherent and rational. Maybe at the end it’s rational, but it’s mine and not necessarily universal".
DESCRIPTION
Born in 1977, Utuado, Puerto Rico. Currently works and lives in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
Iván Girona's work invite us to try to comprehend the excess, opulency and misery presented in mass media and the publicity industry (movies, television, pornography, internet). In the attempt of these big companies selling us a commercial item or a way of living, Girona makes a stand in favor of the liberty we have to choose.
His latest artworks focus on Mylar paper and Plexiglas, working on organic forms like plants and animals, half dead, half alive; but maintaining the beauty of the two life forms.
