Pedro Vélez
Piece aquired in 2017 directly by the artist at PoF (Pounds of Flesh), his studio in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was part of the 2014 Whitney Museum Biennial.
PoF is an alternative art space created to join artists and the uninitiated from diverse backgrounds through education and art and ‘divulge’ within and from Puerto Rico. Projects may encompass myriad art disciplines to link emerging artists and disadvantaged communities through exposure, awareness and interaction with each other, promoting social integration amidst diverse geo-socio-political environments. In our postfordism era of mass media, globalization, hyper-capitalism, terrorism, global warming, migration, intersectionality, gender polarization and religious fundamentalism, PoF claims a political role of contemporary art/cultural activist.
